while cleaning off my cutting table, I saw that I had accumulated tons of triangle and inside curve scrap pieces, so my mind went right to a vision of a scrap panel that I could build from the scrap pieces as is. Here is the concept of the idea that flashed in my mind

Kind of like a "Crazy Quilt" design.
We used to call those quilts, "rag bag quilt" LOL Maybe that is what I'll call the panel when I do one |

Interesting idea Joan! I'm sure that ALL of us have pretty good sized scrap bins. Now on this one I might think if adding glass globs, or other interesting additions...humm, this is giving me a few ideas as well.

Decorative soldering and scalloped foil in some areas would add pizazz to it as well...just like a crazy quilt with different stitches used.

That is what I did with my purse accent light, used the wave foil. This panel is only a concept, as the intention is to use the scraps as is without any cutting. Just to hunt through the bins for the colors and shapes you want and let them design the panel for ya. Kinda like a puzzle, finding the right piece for the space. Fun, easy and pretty

Cool idea!
Yep, I agree with Denise on adding some colorful glass nuggets to your crazy quilt if you have any large gaps, maybe add little decorative wire curly-Qs on there as well.
No matter what you do with it, it'll be a blast to put together! It'll be a neat, fun, original piece!

Gotcha JF! Just wanted to give some ideas for some alternate things people can do if they choose to leave spaces between the pieces of glass. I've also see wire work, or twisted pieces of lead came in the empty spaces...looked pretty cool, and unique. Some of the additions made the piece look pretty interesting.

funny you post this now...
Toni and I designed a crazy quilt pattern this weekend to make into stepping stones for around the pool...
I have about 50 lbs of scrap so I should be able to make the 5 or 6 stones I need and still have plenty left over...

Di, that is a wonderful idea. Maybe, Malinda or was it Anne who started the "I have an idea thread", would let us use this for the next piece for everyone to do their way. Would love to see what everyone could come up with. The only rule would be, use the scraps as is, not extra cutting. Grinding would be optional, but I don't intend on grinding the pieces. Any method, would work too, that is, foil, lead, or stepping stones, What do you all think? |
