Skype is a free interactive internet voice messager. It has the capacity to hold teleconferences for up to 26 people at one time. The voice quality is very clear from what we have personally experienced here on the Artisans Of Glass forum.
Following is the set up directions for Skype and getting connected.
Directions
Go to Skype's homepage and download the program. It's a small program and takes less than 2 minutes to download.
www.skype.comOnce installed, in the "Search for contacts" field, type in artisansofglass, and then click on the "Search Directory" button. Once located, click add contact.
Your now on AOG's contact list.
At the time of the event, a call will be placed to the guest all the attending members, and once everyone is connected, the conference can begin.
Before the event, if you would like, we can arrange do a dry run with you so you can see how it functions and what to expect. Let us know if this is of interest to you.
TELEVENT FORMAT
The event will consist of a guest speaker, a moderator, and up to 24 members as participants.
Once the guest has agreed to attend the Televent, it will be posted on the AOG site. Members will be encouraged to post questions for the up-coming guest in relation to their area of expertise. The guest can enter the forum as a guest or join if desired, to view the post containing the questions to get an idea as to what people are looking for in information.
Once in the call, members will be asked at the beginning of the Televent to mute their mics until called on to speak (click the small mic icon next to the volume control slide bar - this will mute the mic - it must be clicked again to reactivate it). This will remove background noise and prevent several members talking at once.
Once the Televent is under way, the moderator will type in the first question for the guest to answer. Members wishing to comment or ask follow-up questions will type their name in the text area and post it. After the guest has finished answering the question, the moderator will ask the members for their comments/questions, in the order in which their names are posted. Once this is completed, the moderator will post the next question and the process will be repeated until it is finished, or the time of the event expires. We expect at this point in time, events to run 1-1.5 hours depending on the level of participation.
