Having dealt with the planning of The American Glass Guild conferences. The first thing you should do is look into near by hotel accomodations. An expensive hotel will kill your idea in a hurry. June is a tourist season in both locations. You may be better off looking at early spring for better prices/deals. Corning is nice, but in the country. Weaton is not far from Philia, Atlantic City and NYC. Weaton may be more applying as people can easily visit these other places.

Ken Leap is affliated with Weaton and Bryn Athyn Cathedral, maybe contact him.

Thanks for that Vic.  So that means we better get on this!  JF do you want to contact Ken or should I? Wasn't Di the contact for Corning?  Di, can you check out some accommodations? Don't mean to be bossy but if we're going to do this I think we need some immediate forward planning so we can all make some firm decisions as to where we want to go. Maybe when we get some more info we'll be deciding we do want to move the date up! What does everyone else think?

Contact the local Chamber of Commerce in both areas for help. When dealing with a hotel, if you can guarenttee them a number of booked rooms, they may give  you a special deal. If you all stay at the same hotel you may be able to negotiate for a meeting room or a back room at their bar or restaurant. If most people will be flying in, you need to have evening things near by or arrange for group transportation

Great tips on what we should investigate when we've decided on which place everyone would like to meet up with.  Di, maybe we should have a poll to find out which location suits everyone and some quasi-firm committments about who intends to go, just to have general number to throw out when checking on blocks of rooms.

Everyone should go to the links provided and really take a good look at what classes are offered at what levels, what would the class bring to your skill level?  Is it something that you would be thinking about getting involved in after you return home, or offer as part of your classes?  Personally, I'd like to take a class or classes that will add value to, or teach me something that I can incorporate into my future plans. Lots of think about.

As Vic pointed out, the NJ location is closer to higher populated areas and interesting side trips, but then I found that the area that Corning is in is also located near some great upstate wineries, beautiful scenic areas and some totally gorgeous state parks...Hard decisions...lol

I wouldn't be opposed to moving the Escape to May..might miss school vacationers that way!  Good point!

May is usually good weather and if it's not..who cares.....as long as I get to meet everyone and take some classes it works for me. You can count me in as a definite attendee ...I will be there!!!! As to which one....either one excites me. The idea that Wheaton may arrange some classes specifically for our group is  a real plus.

This little journey is a trip to Corning Shereen, and it's tentatively planned now for fall 2010.

We put it on the back burner due to lack of interest, but if we get a decent size group to commit and agree on a time and place we can try again.
