I did this over the summer and I've never gotten around to posting it.  I have always wanted to make a mosaic self portrait, but have always just been intimidated by it.  I finally got the courage to just suck it up and go for it. :)  I'm happy with it.  The hands were very hard to do and my pug, Lola, is a bit off as far as color goes.  But overall I'm pleased.  In the picture my hair is tied up, so I just made the hair down...didn't look right in the piece to have the hair up.

Good job Meaco. Faces are hard to do and would be even harder to accomplish with mosaics because of all the grout lines. Taking that into account, I can see the resemblance.

Thanks, Kev! :)  I decided to do something different and just nip all the glass for the piece.  I did grind a few, but not that many.

Good for you Meaco, a self portrait is a tough one to do in mosaic.  I see you too and Lola is cute.

Very cool!

I'd try that but I never have any scraps left over that are big enough for my nose.

I friend of mine just took a Carol Shelkin portrait workshop so I really
found your post timely!

You did a very good job Meaco, so be proud of your accomplishment.

She is indeed a wonderful mosaic artist who has made her name in large piece portraits following her style.  The other less popular method is to use much smaller pieces of tesserae to form the picture.

Great job Meaco!  Love it.  You two are sooo cute!  I think that portraits are difficult to do also, this turned out well!  Keep up the good work!
