Here is a piece I'm trying by sand blasting iridized glass to leave only the design elements. This is black iridized glass, so when fired the light areas you see will be black. I'm firing it face down to get the texture on the iridized design, then will slump into a tray mold. It's 9.5" x 13.5"

The other pic is a great find I spotted in my local shop and just had to have it. It's a serving platter 18" diameter..oh the imagination is starting to run wild.

This is not an original design of mine, but merely from a clipart CD I bought.

I could do a globe on it...it would also be cool for painting in the center of it.

The design on the tray is great.  I am very interested in seeing the completed tray.  Good work as always.

Really like the design Kev, and the iridized glass.  Can't wait to see it after slumping.

Thanks guys. I'm kind of anxious to see it slumped. I'm also slumping a base for the Primarily Appetizing tray.

Here it is finished. It's not a complete success. Some of the black ended up with some devit I think. If I remember correctly, it was all shiny when it was originally fused. There are areas on both ends that are dull. I ended up placing the base on it and not the other set since it too had problems. When I was slumping it, the small one slumped at about 1150 whereas the large tray was not completely slumped and I had to continue on upward to 1225. I extended the hold time from 5 minutes to 10 minutes. I think the extra time was too much. On the base piece, it almost looked scorched on the underside that is against the mold at the center lowest point and along the outside edges.

I believe I have to lower my temp and hold longer.

The piece is not a total loss and I will try the technique again with adjustments. Maybe fire it face up with a clear cap and see what that looks like, and adjust the schedule.

Thoughts......

well I can't tell you what the answer will be, I'll leave that to the more knowledgeable fusers here, but it sure is pretty! So dissapointing to have that happen, an expensive piece to have not work!

It's still quite usable. I needed a replacement tray anyway as the daisy tray sold and I didn't have one to replace it.

I have found if you already have divit it will get worse if you put it back in. but I have not found I get divit at such a low temp . Usually the higher temps cause it.

Working with irid is kind of unusual some times. It is a film added to the surface of the black glass and sometimes it comes out looking like saran wrap on the surface.

Some of my slumps will take on the surface of the mold if left too long.

I'll keep practicing with some smaller pieces and let you know what comes of it.
