Anne got This notice from her supplier and wanted to let everyone here know about it (file is too big to post). It is a PDF file so you will need Acrobat Reader to view it, if you do not have Acrobat Reader get it here.

I have one also.  I called and it  will be 4-6 weeks before they will have any replacements to ship out.   I might hold on to mine until winter when its too cold to work in the garage.   Unfortunately its the only one I have.

I called them too Mich and was told the same thing.  Did they also tell you that now they'd talked to you and warned you not to use the iron it was on file you'd been told.  I was told their legal department was keeping track of who had been warned, that this was a very serious issue, they hoped I wasn't going to ignore the warning, and they expected me to stop using the iron right away.  They sell 10,000 of these irons a month and have 4 years worth to replace.  Are we hooped..........yup!! I asked if they had another replacement and they don't, not one of the same quality anyhow! I aksed if we were going to be reimbursed for down time as I have a business to run and was told no, they'd have the iron picked up and returned to me at no cost but otherwise I was on my own! I'm impressed!

The man I talked to didn't ask my name.  I guess thats a good thing.  Maybe I'll suck it up and buy another iron in the mean time.    I guess a spare never hurts, except the bank account.      I already over paid for the iron just to suport the local glass shop.  This time I'll have to find something cheaper on-line.   Any sugestion?

I looked into buying a Hakko but they aren't CSA approved so I can't get one in Canada and the supplier here didn't have anything else in stock that they considered worth buying.  I've dug out my old Weller 80 and a rheostat so hopefully that'll get me through. Good luck, hope you can find something else.

About three years ago, Hakko assured me that the CSA approval was on the way. Then they announced a distributor (someone in Aurora ON, as I recall) but the irons never turned up at any retailers as far as I know.

You can buy the state-side and have them shipped here.

I got my replacement iron today.  If any of you have the Weller 100 and haven't gotten your new unit I'd think about doing it.  I'm astounded at how much better this iron works than my old one did. Faster, hotter, a much nicer bead! Obviously the old iron had problems but they creep up on you slowly so you don't even realize it!

I have a Weller 100 from that time period, but the list of recalls says 100P3. Mine just says 100P, so I didn't do anything about it. It is just my back up, as it never worked well.

I missed this post the first time around so I'm glad you shared an update Anne! I took mine apart because I knew I bought it in '06 but I couldn't remember when..... seems mine was on stock shelves for a while anyways since it was dated May '05 *lol.

Audrey,  Your iron is included.  I have the same one when I called to check on it I was told all 100's from that time period.   Sorry.  but now that they getting them out hopefully you won't have to wait so long for a replacement.

One "tip" I heard is to take out your tip and keep it when you send the iron in.  They will send you and new iron with a tip and then you will have a spare.
