This is an appetizer set I am currently working on. The main tray is 11" x 11", and the 4 smaller ones are 6" x 6". I used white opal for the base color, as I plan to sand carve a design into some areas of the front to reveal the white. I also placed the white on the bottom as in the past I have had some devit problems with the white, and I am not sure if this is from the same batch or not. I figured if it does show devit, I can sand blast it off.

Dunno 'bout funky - but sure is bright. Hard to go wrong with primary colors.

Well ! What an ordeal today. I was sand blasting and ran into problems.....well let me cut it short and just tell you what happened...the blasting hose developed a large hole and I didn't realize it and was trying to problem solve as to why I was not getting grit.....omg omg ....there was grit throughout the whole garage before I realized what had happened....and the clean up began....what a freaking mess!

Then while attempting to blast through the top layer of glass to get to the white base layer, which was the intended process, the mask started lifting in some areas so I had to stop....not a good day. So....now the intent is to fill the carved areas with fine white frit and refire. If you look close enough, you can see the over spray where the mask lifted. Once it's fired again it will turn shiny again. I need to find a better masking material than the Venture brand.

Anyway....here's today progress.

well that's a drag but thank heaven it's fixable! Don't even you the mess you had to clean up. Tomorrow is another day Kev - we get to have days like that so when it's a great day we realize how good things really are and how lucky we are! Thinking positive..................

Today's progress. The carved areas were filled with fine white frit...oh joy...what fun that was..poking around salt sized pieces of glass..LOL..but..it's done. Placed back into the kiln for another full fuse. Once that is done, they will be slumped into their final shape.
