Here is a piece I recently finished....actually I made 2 of them. I initially was planning to make it into dinnerware, but decided since the iridized is uncapped, it would be better suited to be further off to the side where cutting knives would not mar that finish. I love the look of the iridized glass...it really adds a colorful touch to the piece.

I like it too Kev. A knife would scratch the irrid? Didn't realize that!

I think there is a small chance it may flake if repeatedly scored by sharp knives.
I contacted Spectrum o ask if there was a potential health risk with using uncapped iridized glass on food bearing surfaces. Here is the reply I got back.
Hi Kevin, Thank you for contacting us. I checked with our chemical engineer. I had never heard of a problem with it uncapped, but I went to the expert. Below please read his answer. There is no known problem with uncapped irid but it is always recommended that you cap your art work if you want to use it for a food baring surface. We recommend this because we don't always know how the customer is going to fuse our products and what the result will be in their application. I hope this answers your question. If not, please let me know. Best Regards, Mary Estrada Spectrum Glass Company
Iridized glass is made by spraying tin chloride on hot glass. It is very low in toxicity. I read it would take a 200lb person to ingest 20lbs of it to have any affects.
