The 2nd phase...firing for a dimensional fuse. Once I saw this pic, I had to rush back and move that small yellow starfish..glad I caught that now.
The next step will be the sand blasting and carving. That egg looking thing will be a sand dollar once it's carved.

I didn't want it to look too busy as I still have a line of bird tracks and the big heart to carve into the sand yet.

Dimensional fuse completed.
I was not as careful as I should have been with the frit. I realized after I had the white in place that I forgot to run a magnet through it to pick up an metal particles from the crusher, and...I guess it pays to rinse it out with water after as well, as there are minute little pieces of other colors in it as well. No fears, was not really the look I was hoping for, but now the challenge comes into play to turn it into something I do like. I'm not worried about the filings and little colored pieces as I know they are only on the surface, and I can blast them off. I've been toying with the idea anyway to sandblast almost the whole thing after it's slumped so it will look more like beach glass and have a matt finish except for a few highlights on the starfish and in the water that will remind shiny.
As for the brown tray...well,....again not really what I hoped for. I fused the frit too long for this piece and now it looks more like oatmeal instead of sand, and the sand dollar looks a little too flesh colored...but....I think I can still turn both of these projects around.

The metal filings and other colors make it realistic - tar balls!

It did lighten up a fair bit didn't it, and the striking parts are funny! It still looks good, don't get me wrong, but it's weird when you get in your head a totally different look *LOL. Can't wait to see the rest of the process!!
ummmm opps *L. I read up to a certain part and replied.... maybe I should have gone to finish reading since more has happened and a second page of pics and comments existed. Don't mind me :P.

I do that all the time, Amber! I'll pretend not to notice when you do it, if you will do the same for me. Rebecca

I'm thinking with both these trays that I will slump them, then blast at least 90% - 100% of the surfaces for a satin frosted look, like beach glass. I think it will make the colors very subtle.

Today's progress. I just love it when a project takes on a life of it's own and turns into something a little different than you originally planned. Such was the case with the starfish beach tray. I decided not to slump it after all and get a stand for it so they can display it. I am absolutely thrilled with the results of this piece.
The sand dollar piece is in progress. All the sandcarving is completed. tomorrow it gets slumped into an tray with up turned corners and then I may lightly sandblast the sand dollar post slumping to give it a matt finish again.
