Here are a few pics of what I did today. I finished the Pit bull pendants, and decided to leave the background glass in a matte finish..looks really cool!

On the red striped tray I sand blasted it to reveal the Kanji lettering  (Peace-Tranquility), and also to leave the black trees. I left a bit of residual black paint around the tress to add a little interest. It is currently in the kiln fire polishing.  I am really loving this piece. It's different from what I initially envisioned, but 90% of what I do is not planned but merely is a progressive discovery as I go along...which hopefully makes for a nice surprise at the end as to what it morphed into.

Thanks Judy...it was a fun trial experience. I love the chrysanthemum..kind of abstract solarized coloring.

Thanks Nancy. I can see real potential for the painting and blasting...so much easier than fusing 2 sheets of different colored glass together to be able to blast through one layer to get to the base color. The paint is so thin it blasts off in seconds.

Thanks Judy! I'm thinking of slumping this into a single slight curve.

Hee, hee, I KNOW I've bored everyone in the past with the pets I seem to have been blessed with..not my fault really, I'm innocent, just seem to get more and more of them somehow...but those pendants are PERFECT!  Love them, you did a really great job with the design and anyone that owns or has rescued one of these dogs would be proud as punch to wear these!

I also love the Oriental influence in your work and these pieces you're currently working on are outstanding!

I had to fire polish the red tray again as the blasted areas did not go back to the glossy surface as much as I'd liked and to match the rest of the piece. This time I went up to 1365 with a 10 min hold, whereas previously I was at 1325 with a 5 min hold. I believe it did the trick this time. I also threw in those carved pendant trials with the dichroic glass..so it will b fun to see how they look .

Yeah, 1325 is a bit low to get a good polish.  I usually polish at 1375 with a hold to get a good shine. Raising your temp was a good thing!

The 1325 works well for the pendants, but not for the larger pieces. Also the pendants have a clear cap which might firepolish better at that temp than opal.

This fire polish worked perfectly! I am so loving this tray. Slumping of both trays will happen tomorrow.

The trial pendants turned out really cool as well. The last batch of dichroic I bought, seem to crinkle more then what I have had previously, though apparently it is not the "Crinkle" type. I'll do more of them and see how they come out, but these look really cool in person. They just have to be cold worked and then they are done.

Thanks Becki...it's getting the simple curve slump and the other one will have the 4 upturned corners....or do you think I should do the reverse with them..I trust your judgment.
