The pattern came with Glasseye. OK, not really 'Start To Finish' - it's all cut out and fitted - next step is to foil and solder. Then I was thinking (yes that's what that strange smell was!) that I would make it as the center portion of a panel - still have not decided what to use as a background glass. Suggestions are welcome.

It makes me think of MC Escher's drawings. Maybe it needs a lizzard.

There are only 16 shapes each with 3 pieces totaling 48 pieces, so my numbering system was 011,012,013,021,022,023...151,152,153,161,162,163 - just to make sure each set matched the surrounding sets.

Artique or drawn, depending on the budget, would make a good background and not take the eye too far away from the content. Echoes of Escher here too, his Day and Night is on my bucket list.

That is cool Alan, depending on the color you focus on..it changes depth..lol. Man, background glass...LOL I'm thinking you could continue this theme with different textured clears...cut into the boxes...lol. I'll have to think on that one.
Yeah Di, it's raining and cold here..probably less than half of Alan's daytime temp...brrrr. For the next few days too, I guess we need the rain.

It snowed here yesterday and are still falling!
This reminds me of a quilt pattern. I love how it looks 3-D. Nice project Alan.

Those "square points" around the edges will make the designing of the background interesting.

Oh my word - that kind of precision cutting just boggles my mind! I aggree with Graham -designing the background will be fun!! It really does look 3-d! Looking forward to the progress reports!

You would need to make the connecting lines in the background glass in order to make those square points cuttable. You could design the background glass so that they're squares as well or create those connecting lines into another quilt design.
Good point Graham.

You could, with what ever background color you choose, make yet another set of boxes around the existing boxes but make these distorted by pulling, in a perspective way, away from the center of the design. These boxes would be elongated as well. The outcome would be more like an Escher design pushing through the background and distorting the edges of the design. I think something like this would keep the design away from a standby idea in which the medallion is placed on nice looking background.

I haven't seen Escher's design, but that was the idea I had as well...to duplicate those 'squares':)

My choice for background glass would be a clear textured glass.
Look forward to seeing it finished.
