My daughter is big into recycling - making all sorts of things out of every conceivable throw away item - and here is some of the 'Recycled' glass I do to add to her stand at fairs. Everything has been made from discarded bottles, broken wine glasses, a broken fruit bowl, the green hanging t.lite holders are cut off beer bottles.... Only the 'shot' glasses in the set are new.

I really like that your daughter is making money with these creations and a great way to use up your small bits of SG as well!

those are awesome items Beth. isn't it fun turning what otherwise would be in the landfill into something usefull and very pretty too. Great work

I use a locally made version of the bottle cutter that sits in the neck of the bottle with an adjustable level cutter - then the 'fill with hot water and spray cold around the cut'... Also variable success. I battle to tighten the screws enough and the damn thing slips whilst I'm cutting....Now if Ian would let me use his saw....!!! Thanks for all the kind comments! It can be fun using stuff that would otherwise just add to the landfill. |

I saw some this weekend that were obviously done with the saw. The cuts didn't match up. I wish I could have taken pictures. If you do it with a saw, you would want to have something to rest the end against to be sure that the cut matched up when you finished.

This is an Inland table saw/grinder combo thingie with a circular blade - rather like a tile cutter that I want to try. The woman who used to have a studio here used to use it to cut bottles, - she just said it made ahuge mess... |

Nice projects Beth! I'm sure that your "recycled" items will sell well at the fairs. LOL, I, too, have instructed all family members and friends NOT to throw away broken bottles, wine glasses, vases, etc. Because it's just soo much fun to figure out what crafty thing you can do with them. I LOVE the butterfly wine glasses! Too cool.
I made a few of what I call "Votive Goblets" for some pre-Christmas shows I did this year..and had one customer place an order for two more. So the pic is the last two I did for her. I began the way you did, using only broken items, but when I can't find any, I go to what we call 'The ChristmasTree Shops" (I think that they are mostly in the New England area, cheap prices on most things.) and buy some very inexpensive stemware. I've not had good luck just breaking them, so I use my Taurus 3 Ring saw to do it. LOL. Which is fun in itself..you can make some pretty interesting shapes.
