you have really gotten a lot down Evelyn. Don't you just hate it what that happens, I mean breaking the same piece more than once. You just needed to walk away. Tomorrow is a new day.

Thanks everyone. I have my repair class today, really looking forward to learning and seeing different techniques. The giraffe is my main project for this repair class. The glass for the giraffe arrived yesterday at Mike's shop and I haven't seen it yet, but I'm excited that I can move forward and finish the big girl. I'm taking this panel also so Mike can help me with the frame. The glass that I used for the shrubs is thicker then the zinc frame channel, so another lesson to be learned. I put the last piece of glass in this morning, but having trouble resizing to post the picture. Will post pictures after class.

I got to hold this panel in the light for the first time today...and I'm loving it! Mike had to use a bevel grinder bit on the glass at the top (shrubs) in order to fit the zinc frame. I still have to solder the back side, clean and patina, then I'll post the final picture. But I'm really pleased with how the sun effects the texture on the dogs body and the leaves really show up differently with the sun.
Repair class was great. We scored, then melted the solder and while melting the solder some of the scores would further break. Found out how to remove the glass and foil, without removing the foil from the other side.
So, on the giraffe, one ear was broken, but I didn't have any more of that glass either, so had to remove the other ear in order to match the glass on the other side. All in all, I had to remove/repair a total of 10 pieces. The glass from Armstrong matched, so the left side and right side background pieces are repaired and soldered in place. The ears are done, I just have the face, horn and one top background piece to cut and replace. Hopefully I'll finish the dog panel tomorrow and work some on the giraffe.

Evelyn, you amaze me. You just keep on going no matter what the obstacle in your path, you find the way through, or around it. I admire that. I am so glad the background glass was a match and that you were able to learn so much about repairs and in the interim complete another beautiful piece. You rock!

I am so glad on is on his way to health. What a relief that must be for you. Can't wait to see him. You learned a lot, and often these "problems" actually wind up with a better project than the original. Plus, you learned a lot about repairs.

You go Girl!! You've gotten a alot accomplished and will be looking at your giraffe in the sunlight soon I'm sure.
When you mentioned that the shrub glass was too thick it was running around in my head that I'd use the grinder bit that reduces the very edge of the glass..I've had some interesting (ebay purchased) unknown manufacturer and heavily textured glass here that would have been a "witch" to foil..so that's what I did. But I wanted to see what your repair teacher would recommend.
I'm assuming that you grabbed the edge of the foil on the broken piece with pliers and ran your hot soldering iron in between that and the next piece of foiled glass to remove it. At least that's how I manage it.
Learning how best to do repairs is always good experience. I don't particularly enjoy doing the repair itself..but I certainly get satisfaction seeing the finished project looking as good as new! Plus, it's just another one of those things that not everyone either knows how to do or wants to become involved with. So it's another notch in your Stained Glass belt to be able to do it not only for yourself, but for others as well!
Good job Evelyn!!

Here's the final panel. The first one is inside and the second one is outside in the sunlight.
