A friend of ours has asked me to come up with some ideas for a stained glass present he can give his wife for their 40th wedding anniversary in Sept.   I'm in a bit of a brain fog with a bad cold, so would appreciate any suggestions or projects you all have done in the past for something like this.

Many thanks!

I think it would depend on their personalities, but what about making something that would bring a pleasent memory to mind? Do they have a favourite place? Event? Maybe they both enjoy gardening, so maybe a panel of their favourite flowers with Happy 40th etched onto a small brass lable that could be attached to the frame or included into the design.

Maybe 2 intertwining hearts, favourite colours? If it were me, I would love one of a coastal scene with a lighthouse in the background because I live by the sea. Or maybe one of my favourite sea birds which happens for be a Gannet:) But it's not for me is it...lol:)

How about telling us a little bit about them. That might help us to get more of an idea and trigger some thoughts.

Tina, a mirror with an over lay of the type of flowers the she carried on the day of their wedding may be a nice gift.  You could even engrave an oval bevel with their names and the date they were married, and attach it to the corner of the mirror.

If their tastes are simple a traditional Victorian panel, could be representitive of 40 pieces for 40 yrs. The number of pieces can be almost anything with a bevel or three.
My avatar is a 25th, a reminder of where friends spent their honeymoon.
One of the 'pizza pans' in my gallery is 25 pieces + border.

All good ideas.

How about if they can provide you with some favorite holiday photos
for inspiration?

Another idea is love birds.

p.s. welcome to the forum Tina.

Kev is "50" painted, or just a golden colored glass?

Helen,

The intention was amber glass to simulate gold.

No problem Tina. It's nice to be able to get ideas from others when our minds seem gridlocked.

I could see your design as a wedding gift as well, but with an etched piece in the center with the invitation info, or a bible verse like 1 Corinthians 10-13.

Here is a frame that I did as a 50th gift.  The picture is of the wedding day and on the right is the invite to the 50th party.  I have also done one where the pic on the left was the original and on the right I put a current pic of the two of them.
