I read about "freeze and fuse" and wanted to try it. A bit late for "v" day but these are molds for chocolate. I read that the larger the frit the more transparent the object. What's nice about it is I used smashed reg glass for these. I have no idea if they will work or not. 1 has CMC mixed and these rest were just frozen with water. Here they are after I put them in the kiln.

Here they are right from the kiln. I thought this topic would be a tad more popular - I just made some with bullseye glass to use with clear glass shaped hearts . I can send you the photos if you'd like when I'm done :) I'll also send you a link about CMC :)

Cool Shareen tell us more about this process. Do you just freeze the frit in the chocolate molds and fuse? I have tons of chocolate molds.

I'll post photos of the hearts I did last night, tomorrow. I found putting some of that CMC REALLY helped. I made 15 hearts and only one didn't look all that great. I tried bigger size frit and the color was an almost purple and the frozen molds were like a frozen sand and felt more unstable than the next batch (the mold only holds 5) I sprinkled red frit powder into the sandy size frit and it felt almost so much easier to to put in the molds and the frozen molds were extremely stable. I had read that you HAD to have a flat surface on the mold - I chickened out trying it both ways but i will next time. This new batch is SOOO much better. In the kiln right now I cut 2 clear glass hearts the same size and put one over and one under a heart- I'll post those too tomorrow :)

Paul Kimball invented freeze and fuse. I was present at the 2005 Hot Glass Horizons when he presented the tequnique to the public. What a great guy. A scientist, in his former life, it was interesting how he searched for the perfect binder for frit. His wife Jennifer is awesome too. If you go to Vegas they usually run a table there. http://pkimball.clarityconnect.com/pyros/default.html
