That sounds very encouraging. Do you know when you will find out? Don't you just hate it when life gets in the way of glass? LOL

I'm glad the meeting went well and quite sure you've made an impression on them m'dear.
Click, click, click...everything is falling into place.

Congratulations on having your design accepted Judy:) That's a wonderful honour! Small flowers

stunning sample for them to see. here's to hoping you get to not only design it but make the windows too...I can't understand that even being possible, they could take you're design but not have you do it? am I missing something here? anyway....best of luck

Thanks girls

I have had several email comments about this process being a bit unusual.

It is a weird predicament, thanks for asking. The Catholic diocese just declared bankrupt here in Dec or Jan. It has been 8 years of law suits. So they are so careful of every breath. The priest wants to make sure he does everything right and is not seen as playing favorites. so he has broken the process up into parts.

First a design or theme contest. They did not even have to turn in a drawing, just an idea. A friend from the parish called within weeks of me getting back from Dick Millard's class and told me about it. I called the priest and got permission to enter, being not of the parish but of the diocese. I turned in designs that looked like their current windows with good themes that fit the parish. The council and the donor loved them! At the meeting Wednesday they asked for very minute changes. That is when you know you did well

Now according to the priests plan the IDEA goes to an artist. I only won the IDEA stage, but am not considered the artist yet by process, but the council and donor loved me so I think I have a great shot at it. The priest then made it clear he needed 3 bids to make it look un-bias. I gave him A couple names so the process would not drag out. He needs to get one from the local SG shop too. But she does not like to do lead or paint flesh. She has a contract right now for another parish that I did the flesh for.

So I am patiently (sort of) going along with the process. He also needs to know my price and timing is not jerking him around . So this process is to my benefit if I get it. If not maybe one of my designs will be done by someone better than me. That would be an honor too. If it is done by some one who can not paint , I will pity the parish but move on and build beautiful stuff for some one else. It's all good. I can't believe it is happening at all  so it's all good.

Yesterday I was asked to try to sing with the local old guys rock/blues/country band, "Loose Gravel". They want a female singer. HA, ha, ha, life is good.

You know that I am totally praying for you and they would be foolish if they didn't have you do them.

Fools are born everyday  cheesy thank goodness , or girly would I be in trouble!

I have gained so much already from this process that I don't mind how it turns out. I am buying glass, lead, and making windows. If not their's, my own, and they will sell. I have to make money for my next glass adventure. Rebecca and I are getting antsy. Any one else want to go next time  laugh

There's not alot of extra cash floating around here these days. I have to save up for my yearly trips back and forth across the border and have some left over to transport supplies back home.

Tempting tho:)

Just did the taxes yesterday. The month trip cost me $2600 including the conference fees. You spend that much on glass to through out to sea to polish  Prod  We cut lots of corners and split lots of meals. There is more than one way to have a good time  cheesy Come on Nancy, we will split it 3 ways. Lets plan for 2012 for Europe. Which part?

I only throw out about 5% to the sea gods, lol. The rest of 'em are generous surprises that wash up from other sources. The only ones I throw back are the regular types that aren't ripe enough to use yet. grin

It would be hard for me to plan that far ahead at this stage.   ........says one part of my brain to the other.
April to October are my busiest times with working on the house, classes and commissions. Winters are spend catching up on glass work to help ease up on things during those busy times. It's been a fulltime cycle and most of that is done solo.

I had all the excuses, Nancy - I don't have the money, I can't leave the shop, if I leave the shop closed for a week, I'll have even less money, I'm not a painter, (but I have thought of taking the class,) but no way can I leave the shop and family for nearly a month, while I'm spending money, hotels, restaurants, class tuition, who will pay the bills while I'm gone, the shop has bills that need to be paid and so does the house, ...

she made me do it anyway!

(And it worked out and was WONDERFUL!)

For sure you both had a great trip. One thing's for sure and that 2 years is still a ways away!  Sounds like a gas though:) I think if I were single, that would be one thing, but now I have a significant other I'm not sure he would appriciate the idea too much.

Awh, I can only imagine how much fun that would be.  I hope that a group could get together to travel to Europe and see all of the wonderful stained glass there!
I'm still waiting for my ship to come in....or maybe hit the lottery jackpot (I'd guess I'd have to play it first huh?) but I'd love to do this.
Sounds like a "not to be missed" event!

I hope that the windows for the church turn out to be your design and commission Judy!  I think that they will.  You definitely could do an awesome job for them.

P.S...I want to hear the demo tape for the "Loose Gravel" and their new female star!!  I hope that you're going to do that with them.  I love music and singing..not that anyone would pay to hear me, but in the shower it sounds pretty good. LOL

Not real talkative today, but want to say  hooray  (Just wish I had as much zip as that smiley right now.)

I had a meeting with the church yesterday and I have been selected to do the windows for the church. My first real church window job.  angel Once my head stops hurting I will be dancing all over the house.
