Still learning the lustre thing. Not a lot of info out there for the application I am using it for, so it's trial and error. I have them in now with a second coat of lustre to see how it comes out. Trying to figure out the right firing schedule is part of it as well. It look like if you apply it too think it almost boils and leaves little spots all over it, and it you apply it too thin it looks like it's tarnished. The silver is trickier than the gold though. I cold worked them today and applied a second coat to see if they would come out better. I'm thinking multiple thin coats is the way to go. They are fire polishing now.

They went back in a half hour ago. I had to cold work them into the finished shapes and apply another coat of lustre. It's all experimental at this point, so not sure how they will end up. Some I already threw out. I have 22 pieces in the kiln now.

The platinum is the harder of the 2 to get nice results, but that is probably my doing. I think the trick is  a few thin coats. I knocked the bottle over today and spilled it..what a mess...lol. Get a pieces of 2x4 and drill holes in it to hold the little bottles.

OH, thanks, good advice!  Do you think it would work to do a thin coat, let it dry then another thin coat so you don't have to refire a whole bunch?

You have to fire it between coats...I use a fire polish schedule. I apply a coat, fire it, coldwork it once it is in place and fired the first time, apply 2nd coat and fire polish it.

Also Anne, though you use a brush to apply it, thin it enough so that it flows and flood the area..that way you get an even coat without brush marks. You cannot brush over it once it starts to dry and it does not take long to do that.

Thanks Kev.  Wow, it's a lot more finnicky then than the gold is!

The platinum does not come out as nice as the gold, but is still quite reflective. Here is a pic of some of the pieces I just took out. I do not have bails attached, just laid in place for appearance. It's hard to get a good pic of them because of the reflectiveness of the gold and the glass, but you can get an idea.

They look good to me Kev.  You obviously have a good steady hand. What is the one on the bottom left - it looks cool!

They are all very cool!  My favs are the AOG Unicorn, the tribal motorcycle (my son would LOVE that!), the Dragonfly (you'd better make tons of those, they'll sell like hotcakes!), and the cat.  LOL..I'll be looking for them on your site when they are ready to be added.

Some really nice stuff there Kev!
