Hey, Wayne!  What size foil do you use on your Tiffany reproduction lamps?

Rebecca,
It depends upon the glass but most shades are done with 3/16".

just found this thread.  Is it by choice that you use 3/16 Wayne, or is that so it more closely replicates the original lamps?

Joan, I gave Rebecca a generalized reply based on most of the people working on or selling Tiffany reproduction shades.   3/16" foil works well with most forms of art glass but not very well with good rolled glass like Kokomo and others. But that is just the tip of the iceburg.

I think this thread would be a great learning experience for new glasser and even some of us that have been around awhile too.  When I took classes I was not even aware that there were several different sized foils available as the teacher only used and sold 1/4" or 7/32".  Nor did I ever get it explained why one would use one size over the other.  Some times as you go you learn on your own, but other times bad habits get formed because no one points out a better way.
