Hi, I'm Marley,

I live in Calgary Alberta with my DH and 5 year old puppy, Jaxon.  Being the chief dog walker, I sure envy those of you in the more moderate climates.  We have had 2 incredible storms the last 2 weeks, both on Friday afternoons - what a mess!  Long forcast is for another and wouldn't you know it - it's expected on Friday again!!  Lucky for me, I don't have to travel to work since my late employer 'offered' me an early retirement in October.  Now I just go down to my little glass room, load up Skutty and I'm toasty warm in my own little world.

On a holiday last year, I bought a glass fused pendant.  I was so intrigued with it, I wanted to learn how it was made.  Little did I know what effect that little pendant would have on me, haha.  I took 2 day classes from local glass suppliers and now am hooked!  It is so exciting to go down and open that lid to see what the kiln gods have created, not always what I thought I would get!  Kinda like Christmas!

I bought my kiln in September and have tried a few things, most of which are OK but not professional quality for sure!  Need lots of practice!   I started with just pendants, and am now trying a few plates.  I only have 2 small molds so am a little limited  on what I can do!

Skutty is working on something for me right now.  I cut some firberboard into a square, 2 level mold, (hope that makes sense) and am anxious to see how that works out.

Take care
Marley

Hi Marley! I'm from Canada as well, located in the east coast along the beautiful shores the Gaspe Peninsula in Quebec. I've been spending the winters with my companion in Iowa and when I return home in the spring, there's usually at least 10' of snow still sitting on my driveway. My snow shoes and snow scoop (shovel) are always handy when I arrive, lol.

I enjoy fusing, foiling and leadwork. Would love to see pics of some of your work when you get a chance.
Welcome to the forum! It's always nice to see another Canadian:) Small flowers Canada Flag

Woo hoo...another one that likes it warm!...LOL

Hi Marley,

I'm a transplanted Canuk from Nova Scotia.

I have just wandered over to the warm side of glass in the last year as well, and am having a blast, along with a little frustration thrown in to keep me scratching my head in wonder. Thanks god there are helpful people here to help me figure out my screw ups...lol. I too started making jewelry and am hooked...little pieces of art. I also do foil work, dabble with lead came work, and paint on glass. There is just no end to the possibilities with glass.

Welcome!!!!!!!

for the warm welcome!  I am very excited to see there are other Canadians here!

Kev, I was in Peggy's Cove two autumns ago and just loved the scenery.   It reminds me a lot of the west coast which I am more familiar with.  I took lots of pictures and even got one special one with the Snowbirds flying over the lighthouse - my personal favorite.   I photoshopped most of the other tourists out and am real pleased with the results.
I will post some pictures of my work once I get my regular computer back from the service guys.  For some reason my Photoshop Elements won't let me open it (that's where all my pics are).  The tech called yesterday and said it was done but the problem was still there this morning so had to take it back.  GRRRR.  I was not a happy camper.

Computers...a love hate relationship...LOL

I love Peggy's Cove. When I was home in Oct. 2008 I went there. It was a beautiful day, sunny and warm. I sat on the rocks for quite some time listening to, and watching the waves crash against the rocks. That is one of the things I miss the most about home. We used to go there on the weekends in the winter and get hot gingerbread and icecream, and of course everything is complete with a coffee..lol. I'd love to see your pics sometime.

I love Peggy's Cove! All of my father's side of the family is from the Windsor area which just north of Halifax. I still have a piece of property there and like to go down to visit.
I've taken a bazillion photos of Nova Scotia as well, lol. Here are some of my favourite pics from Peggy's Cove.

First one reminds me of a ghost ship.
Second show the harbour.
Third is a pic of me in front of the lighthouse:)

There sure are a lot of Canadian glassers on these boards. You guys must have long winters keeping you indoors to play with glass,  Giggle Seriously , you should plan a glass event up there. A glass campout or something.

By all logic on the map I should be a Canadian too. Any one want to adopt us?

Ahh, Nancy, those pics remind of me of places on our coast as well!  I just can't wait to get to NS and do some digging.  So if the East Coast Canadian's have a camp out, don't forget to let me know..I'm pretty close..does that make me an honorary Canadian?

Uggg, I can identify with the computer issues..my old machine had to go in for some repairs..it was only gone for a week and you'd have thought it was forever!  I didn't realize how addicted I am to this thing.  "Knock on wood" that it hangs in there for a while longer.

Great pics Nancy!  And again Welcome Marley!

Well thank thee Nancy!  I'm delighted to be an "honourary" Canadian...lol..my "Canadian" ancesters are probably rolling around up there laughing heartily.

And you're so right, these are invisible boundaries and we are all citizens of the world..why on earth doesn't most of the inhabitants of the earth realize that..I'm going to have to ponder that one.

But thanks!  De

Thanks for the dubbing.  stick  Is that like being made a knight.

The boundaries are all about $$$$$$$$ and control. Not likely to see them disappear anytime soon.

Yahoo!  I got my desktop computer back!  All is working fine.

Wierd problem,  I changed my antivirus from Norton to Bitdefender.  When I first took it in because the photoshop program wouldn't fire up, the guy at the shop over-rode my Bitdefender, loaded and ran his own anti-virus, then checked Photoshop it worked fine.  When I got it home, with BD, it wouldn't work again.  Something within BD won't let my old version work (2004)  So no more Bitdefender for me!  The sad thing is we bought it at their tech's recommendation!  Yeah technology!

I promise i will post some pics soon but we are going to be away for a few days with no access.   omg  what am I going to do!

Cheers,
Marley

You said it!

Here's my lighthouse pic.  I have it blown up quite a bit so it may be hard to actually see the Snowbirds!
